About
Our History
La Popular has proudly been a family-owned business since 1946. Founded by Mr. Galindo and his family, the business was sold to Sal De La Torre in 1961. For over 30 years, Sal and his family ran La Popular with dedication and care. After passing through other members of the De La Torre family, Sal’s son, Dan De La Torre, took over 25 years ago and has been at the helm ever since. We take pride in keeping La Popular within the family and are grateful to our loyal customers, many of whom have supported us for generations.
Our Famous Tamales
For over 70 years, our tamales have been a staple in the community. Made from fresh-ground masa, we offer two varieties: the traditional, mild pork red chile tamale and the spicy pork green chile tamale. Sold individually, by the half-dozen, or by the dozen, our tamales are always fresh and warm. For larger orders (two dozen or more), we recommend calling ahead—especially toward the end of the day—and be sure to place holiday tamale orders in advance, as November and December are our busiest months.
Our Fresh Masa & Tortillas
At La Popular, we take pride in using fresh-ground masa to craft our signature tamales and tortillas. Our masa is available for purchase, perfect for making your own tamales or fresh corn tortillas at home. We also produce fresh corn tortillas, available in-store or wholesale to restaurants, grocery stores, and food trucks. From our tortillas, we also make taco shells, tostada shells, and freshly fried chips, all of which can be purchased in-store or for institutional wholesale.
